The Amalgamated Union of Motor Mechanics and Technicians of Nigeria (AUOMMATON) is the premier trade union uniting automobile mechanics and technicians across Nigeria. Our story dates back to 1968 when the first mechanics association, Nigerian Motor Mechanics (NMM), was conceived and formally established in 1974. Over the decades, the industry has evolved through various associations, adapting to challenges and changes, including the rise of modern mechatronics and the need for cohesive representation.

AUOMMATON was officially registered on October 6, 2023, as a unified body to address the fragmented structure of past associations and represent the collective interests of millions of mechanics and technicians nationwide. With over 35 million artisans under our umbrella, we are committed to revolutionizing Nigeria’s automotive maintenance culture, advocating for policy reforms, and fostering partnerships with government and private entities to enhance the transportation sector.

Our initiatives include pioneering training programs in energy transition technologies, such as converting petrol engines to compressed natural gas (CNG), and establishing training centers to empower Nigerian artisans. We also actively engage in advocating for policies that recognize the vital role of mechanics and technicians in sustaining Nigeria’s economy and infrastructure.
